Sandi Mann

Dr Sandi Mann is Senior Psychology Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and Director of Advantage Psychology, a successful business consultancy based in the North West of England. She is a Chartered Psychologist and has written a number of psychology self-help books. Sandi works with a range of businesses in the private and public sector, helping in areas such as stress management, customer care, deception management and employee motivation. She is also a regular contributor to many professional journals, such as Professional Manager where she writes on issues as diverse as humour in the workplace to emotion management at work.

She also contributes widely to popular media: appearing in newspapers, radio and television to comment on a range of workplace related topics. In addition, she is a frequent conference presenter at events such as the Association of Business Psychologists Annual Conference and the British Psychological Society’s Annual Occupational Psychology Conference.


Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
A: Think about where you want to get to – then you will have a better idea of how to get there

Q: What is the most underrated skill in business?
A: ‘Bounceability’. By this I mean persistence: the ability to bounce back after knockbacks and persevere when things are not going well.  Things don’t go right all the time – most people get rejected, turned down, knocked back or get negative feedback. It’s how we cope with this that counts – the people who are able to brush themselves down and try again – time after time if necessary – are the ones who have ‘bounceability’ and are the ones who will find success (eventually!)

Q: What is your top tip for success?
A: Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, and make everything that comes your way an opportunity
