Geoff Ribbens

For 20 years Geoff Ribbens was an academic lecturing in Organisational Behaviour and Business Strategy to postgraduate business and personnel management students in several Universities. Since leaving full time academic life in 1990 he has concentrated on training and consultancy in all aspects of organisational behaviour.

For the past five years he has taken on the role of Business Development Coach for Oxford Innovation Ltd, helping the development of small and medium sized businesses. In recent years he has gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching and has jointly written Understanding Body Language In a Week with Dick Thompson (Hodder Education) and Managing Difficult People and Difficult Situations (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) with Greg Whitear – a trainers tool kit. Geoff is interested in all aspects of organisational behaviour and the role of coaching in developing senior managers. He has also identified the direct and indirect business benefits of senior managers attending ‘Action Learning Sets’ as a way they can work with their peers to develop their own businesses and develop new ideas.

Q: What do you wish someone had told you when you were starting out?
A: That it would be so difficult to introduce change and new ideas within any organisation – all of us seem to be resistant to different ways of thinking.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
A: Whatever happens do not lose faith in yourself

Q: What is the most underrated skill in business?
A: The skills of influence and persuasion

Q: What is a top tip for success?
A: Maintain focus but look out for new opportunities, new ideas can often have a multitude of uses.
